Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
Hip hip hello again, everyone! (OK — that was stupid.)
So here's what's been keeping me from posting on a regular basis. When I jumped back into writing a blog, there was a lot going on and my life was kind of a mish-mash of emotions and questions and uncertainty. I needed to get it out of my head and that gave me a lot to write about. And that drove the design and function of the blog platform that I created. It is very much built around long-form posts but those sorts of posts have to be crafted and take time and research and editing.
And, frankly, I don't always have that much to say. Now that I've somewhat reined in the incoherent soup that is my emotional self (shut up - I have too…), things are pretty stable and static. Not that things aren't happening, but most of my life these days doesn't lend itself to five solid paragraphs of poorly written, narrative prose. Given the format, however, I felt subtly obligated to write those longer posts. I mean, if I'm going to have to scour the web for an image to use as a page header and edit it down to two different sizes, and dig up some obscure quotes, there had better be a decent theme around which all of those things can orbit, right?
I mean, This isn't really a place that's conducive to pithy one-liners or short "Hey, guess what I learned today" type posts. Back in the day, I used Twitter for that sort of stuff but since leaving that particular septic tank behind, I don't have that forum so those things just go unposted.
All of that leads to this. I'm going to rebuild the blog to allow for all types of content. This is mostly just a reworking of the front end. There are some behind the scenes things that will change too but those can happen after the front face is done and you don't really care anyway, so… This will allow me to post a much wider variety of things. From short, off-the-cuff quips all the way to big, juicy, thoughtful posts and everything in between. It'll be good — for me, anyway. I don't presume that this stuff is of any benefit to anyone else. When will all of this be done? Well, the header image pretty much says it all. Somewhere in the ethereal "tomorrow" which doesn't really exist. I mean, I want to get it done but it's certainly not among my highest priorities so I don't really have any idea. In family road trip terms, the only truly correct answer to "Are we there yet? How much longer?!?" is, as any good Dad knows, "We'll get there when we get there." Of course, that is often followed by "And stop [insert tormenting behavior of choice] your [insert sibling gender]."
Don't make me stop this car! I'll see you, um, tomorrow.
