A lousy weekend for weather
A tornado passed about 2 1/2 miles east of our house early yesterday morning. Although we experienced high winds, we were far enough away that there was no damage. Others were not so lucky.
First, the details:
The tornado consisted of winds nearly 155 mph, which puts it at the extreme top end of the F2 range on the Fujita Scale. The base was about 300 yards wide and it was on the ground for about 7 miles. There was one fatality.
Some horse breeder/trainer friends of ours had their barn and riding arena demolished. Support beams that were in the ground 6 [……]
Continue reading →A great weekend for movies
This weekend's prime-time television offerings were better than usual, but only because there were two great movies on.
Friday night brought The Matrix in an shamelessly obvious marketing move to hype this week's release of the sequel, The Matrix Reloaded. It is, nonetheless an excellent movie and is removed somewhat from both the average sci-fi and action movie options.
The evening also held an interesting revelation. SWMBO told me that, if she were going to be ga-ga over any given movie star, it'd be Keanu Reeves. I responded by putting in a vote for Carrie-Anne Moss. I mean, [……]

I've been on vacation (from work, anyway) since last Wednesday and, when the alarm went off this morning, I had absolutely no energy to get out of bed. Vacations aren't supposed to be this tiring.
SWMBO and I spent the majority of that time at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event where we have been the Assistant Scoreboard Stewards (sounds impressive, huh?) for about 10 years or so. That is a lot of activity in and of itself. In the middle of it, however, one of our friend's horses decided that it'd somehow be a good thing to have [……]
Continue reading →Maybe there is hope for music after all
OK - I admit it - I reneged on a vow to never again watch an award show. Last night I was very bored (and Alias hadn't come on yet) so I actually watched some of the Grammy Awards show. My conclusion? If choice in music is any indication, there might be some hope for the world yet.
While some of the Grammy festivities was the usual circus parade of drivel and underwhelming copycat-of-the-next-guy performances, those who won many of the awards were quite a different story.
Most notably was Norah Jones, a smooth, jazzy, 24 year old, alto [……]

Even if you're not a total Lord Of The Rings geek (I'm sure not), you've gotta check out this forum.
But be forewarned - as of this writing, it's 22 pages long and still growing. But if you've got some time to kill (or want to print it out for later) it's well worth the time. Some of these things are a scream!
Where's My Head?!?
So I've now entered the world of blogging, huh? What, exactly, that means I have no idea. But, I had space on a server and it seemed a shame to let it go to waste.
As this is my first real post, I guess I'll provide some background.
The cast of characters that you'll see mentioned on this site will run the gamut of family, friends and people I've never met and probably never will.
The topics will be widely varied because the many aspects of my life are widely varied. Among others, I expect to write about:
- Family stuff -
