Where's My Head? : The Relaunch

Blog

July 16, 2015

Yes, you read that right, dear readers - all six of you. The Where's My Head? blog is back from the mostly dead. It turns out that, after spending WAY too long being seduced into Twitter's 140 character arms, that I really miss working out my thoughts and writing them out in a more long-form fashion. And seeing as how I'm wrestling with a lot of emotional and spiritual changes these days, I also really miss the catharsis of writing it out. And that's all this blog was ever really for anyway. It's really more my personal journal that I just put out there for the world to see because that sort of transparency brings with it a built in accountability that I really need and crave but don't have in my life right now.

And with that said, the nature of the content here is going to change somewhat. Not that it really matters much. It's just that the old stuff was pretty much mindless fluff a lot of times. I was very into politics and current events and blah blah blah but there wasn't a lot of introspection. There were a few good things in there and I may refer to some of them now and then. And I'm going to leave all of that old content available in an archive section but it will not be actively watched over in any way. Dead links and broken images will remain dead and broken.

This new incarnation, though, is going to fall a lot more in line with the blog's actual title. It will truly be where my head is at at any given time. It exists to help me think through and chronicle what it means to be a middle-aged single man struggling with issues of life, love and a renewed and/or burgeoning understanding of what it truly means to be a Christian. I'll go into all of those in more detail as time goes on, I'm sure, but that's going to be my main focus. I won't say there won't ever be mindless fluff - there is, after all, a fair chunk of time where that's exactly what's dominating my thoughts - but that certainly not the main purpose.

From a technical standpoint, I'm writing the blog engine for this myself starting with a basic structure as found in some online tutorials but then customized to fit my needs. This is partly as a way of learning a new programming framework but also so I can make it work the way I see fit and not try to make it fit into someone else's idea of how it should operate. That said, there is still loads to do. The basic functions are in place at least to the point where I can roll it out but I'll be getting things like commenting and social sharing working soon on the front end and I really need to do some additional work in the content editor itself. There's also MORE than plenty that needs to happen with regard to the design as you can easily see from the rather spartan presentation. (Anybody want to lend a hand with that part?)

So sit back, relax, and I hope that you will join me for this ride - wherever it's going - and once commenting is in place, I really look forward to getting your feedback on the things I'm dealing with. Until then, you can send feedback through other means (email, twitter, etc.) Any of you who care enough to provide comments that aren't linkbait spam also know at least one other way of reaching me. I'll integrate any comments through those other avenues into their respective entries when I can.

Thank you for your indulgence. You may now return to your regularly scheduled lives.
