I've changed the look of the blog. The old one was just thrown up as a quick solution when I switched to a different CMS and I've never been truly happy with it. Until now I hadn't found anything that I liked any better though. This one I kinda like, at least as a starting point.
Only a couple points of contention that need to be dealt with.
This site is hosted on a friend's server and last week it decided that it was tired and needed a nap.
For better or worse, the site is now live on the new CMS. No more double posting so there's no turning back. I'll be porting over the missing pieces in the next few days.
Please let me know if you experience any issues with this new setup. I haven't yet, but I don't actually read this thing... :-)
I'm almost done with the conversion of this site to new software. The stories, comments, polls and other static content items have all been ported over and, in a number of cases, have had links repaired. I did this by hand to make sure it all got where it needed to be correctly and to find the dead links. I actually enjoyed it as it gave me a chance to go back and re-read things that I wrote way back when. I'm quite certain that I am the only one that would get any enjoyment out of reading my old posts but it is what it is.
I've still got some miscellaneous content blocks to replicate (Quote of the Moment and stuff like that) but that'll be done shortly. I may roll it live before those are done in any case if for no other reason than because I don't want to double post things any more than I have to.
Also, if you are subscribed to the RSS feed, the new one should be http://wheresmyhead.com/?q=rss.xml and will begin working at my whim (see above). I may or may not have a redirect to it from the old location since it's not my own server and I'm not sure whether I easily have the ability to make such a thing happen.
OK - well new anyway. After putting it off for far too long, I've finally upgraded the site to the latest version of Geeklog. There are still some kinks to work out, so if you see anything geborken, please let me know.
Today is CSS Naked Day.
As any regular visitor to my site can see, the CSS pretty much controls only the background images, the fonts and the font colors. (There's a tiny but of layout stuff there, but not much.) As I upgrade I'm going to be looking for a more CSS based design, but I'm not there yet.
In an effort to get back into the swing of actually updating this thing on some kind of regular basis, I've posted a new useless poll about one of life's greatest pleasures. If there's anybody actually looking at this, have at it.
Hey - waddaya know. I've recently been mildly chastised for not updating the blog in some time. (You know who you are, AMBM...) And I plead Not Guilty. Due to circumstances only slightly within my control, I haven't been able to log in to add/change/delete anything in weeks.
Wow - it's been a long time since I've posted anything. With all of the network changes at work (see below), I haven't been able to even look at the site - much less post anything - during the day. And I am jealous of my family time in the evening and try not to spend it all in another room with the computer. (Maybe I'll get a laptop with wireless once the house is done and so I can be around them, but until then...)
Anyway - and this is the aforementioned "below" - I've changed jobs and now have more flexibility in both time and access. Thus, I'm going to try to post on a more regular basis. (Yeah, yeah - I know I've said that before. I really mean it this time. Really.)
So stay tuned. A ginormous, extramongous house update will be coming as soon as I get the pix resized and uploaded.
Mainly because I got tired of looking at the same stories day after day and I don't have time at the moment to write anything with even a modicum of value, I slapped up a quick poll. I'm sitting here looking at a stack of empty Altoids tins - one of each kind. Don't ask me why I have these in my office. I'm really not sure. It's just the dumb sort of thing I do. Let it suffice to say that those who know me well aren't at all suprised by the fact that I have wasted 10 square inches of desk space to erect an ad hoc shrine to breath mints. (Just grin and nod...) :-)
Anyway, vote for your favorite and, if you feel so led, leave comments about why.
